The Best Faux Fur Throw Blankets for Styling This Winter

Faux fur throws are one of my favorite things to style this time of year… although in our house, they’re a year round staple. Emmett & I were constantly grabbing for the same weighted blanket- the “good” throw. You know every house has one! After a few years of reluctantly passing the good blanket back and forth, when prompted by my parents for a good holiday gift idea, I finally asked for a second larger size throw. Today, I’m professing my love for luxury throw blankets, sharing some easy styling tips, along with 20 of the best faux fur throw blankets for styling this winter. These cozy blankets also make the perfect gift for combatting cold weather, while adding an extra layer of warmth!

We currently have four faux fur blankets throughout our home… two in the basement media room (pictured above), one in the basement bedroom, and one in the celadon guest bedroom. I’ll hop on stories to give you an in-person peek in a bit! During the winter months, I’m all about adding heavier, luxurious texture to our home for an inviting seasonal aesthetic. These make the best blankets November to March, and are the ones we use most often. The designer in me is also thrilled because they’re easy on the eyes.

First, let’s brainstorm a handful of places you could style these cozy throws. Given the best throw blankets always become the favorite or first grab, I like to keep them within reaching distance for easy access. Here are some of my go-to vignettes to cozy up… get creative with them!

  • On the arm of a sofa
  • Draped on the back of the sofa (a great way to add a large block of texture)
  • Folded on the seat of a sofa or chair
  • Draped over the foot of the bed
  • Folded or ruched at the foot of a bed (for a casual & cozy look)
  • Tossed into a large basket in any living space (like our media room, pictured below)
  • Draped over a daybed
  • Folded at the edge of a bench
  • Folded in front of a fireplace as a fur rug / soft landing (or in a basket nearby the fire)

These are all high quality best sellers (many are on sale too!), but I sorted to find the options that felt most realistic with nice visual interest. When I’m looking for luxury bedding or the perfect blanket to cozy up with, I prefer something that has a nice weight to it, an extra-large size, something that’s easy to care for (machine washable), and if I’m going the faux fur route… I’d like it to add a touch of luxury and texture to my vignette. Any of these would be a great choice and would work well with existing home decor.

FAQ

Will you link your favorite blanket- the one you and Emmett both love?

Of course! We have two of these in the champagne fox color… the 60″ and 84″ sizes, which makes for versatile styling & snuggling. I like having two identical throws to style on the same sofa, or in the same room for cohesion.

My hesitation for buying one of these is cleaning… how do you clean and care for a faux fur throw?

The majority of these fur throws are machine washable (including the ones I have here at home). There may be one or two in my round up that suggest dry cleaning. Otherwise, they fluff right back up in the dryer after a good machine clean. I use cold water, wash on delicate, and avoid fabric softener.

Where do you most often use your favorite throw?

Definitely in the basement living room! We spend a lot of time lounging downstairs. Lately, after dinner- we’ll turn on the electric fireplace, lounge, and catch up in the basement after a long work day. It’s the relax, cuddle up, watch a movie, make a drink at the basement bar, or the general zone for unplugging in our home.

  1. Good morning! An ample pile of plush, pulchritudinous pelts!😂 Timely too because, although the temps are mid-40s, we’ve got wicked winds and nothing but gray, gray, gray. I wouldn’t mind hibernating under one of these beauties until…May? Seriously though, I’ve always adored fur, and I actually own a lovely snow leopard pillow. I’ve worried a blanket might not survive our enthusiastic use though.🐶 Good to know that many can be successfully machine washed. From your amazing array, I am instantly drawn to the rich, fiery fox furs. Perhaps one should make my holiday wishlist? For the moment, I’m still Thanksgiving focused. Menu set, tablescape planned. Just some last-minute recipe testing and linen ironing before next week’s kitchenfest. How are your preparations going? Now that you’re finally feeling a bit better, I hope you can begin to enjoy the season. (While still taking it easy…🤦🏻) Cheers to all the warm, cozy vibes, Sarah!💜

A pile of plush pelts, indeed! Haha! It’s getting cold here. The snow on the ground hasn’t melted. Having been sick, I made the mistake of leaving my pots in the garden, and I needed to get them into the shed before it’s too late… I ventured into the backyard in my crocs, which was a cold mistake. All of that to say, I immediately came in and cuddled under one of the blankets with the dogs. They oddly like lounging on top of the blankets and have yet to mess with them. Hope you’re having a good night! xo

  2. Good morning! These blankets all look so plush, soft, and cozy! I have one faux fur blanket in my bedroom, and it’s the best blanket in the house. The rest are a mix of wool and knitted. This year temperatures are much colder than recent years, and I’ve been thinking about swapping for some like these. I love the channel stitched faux fur, the one by Wild Mannered, and the posh faux fur. I’ve been fighting a nasty sinus infection, and craving a cozy couch session. Thank you for rounding these up in one place- an excellent gift to give or receive! Hopefully this Friday morning has you feeling much better, and more energetic. Wishing you a warm and cozy weekend of decorating! I’ll be painting base boards and hopefully setting up my tree. Cheers to 🍕 & Friday friends!

Hi Lauren! Aren’t they pretty? I love a good, heavy faux fur blanket. I’ve been snuggled up in one for about 3 weeks now fighting off this pneumonia, ugh. I’m glad I was able to toss it into the wash before my father-in-law arrived. I had to rid the house of germs beforehand, ha! Hope you’re feeling back to 100 by now! I’m so behind on blog comments since I’ve been sick. It has been nice to sit here this morning with my tea and play catch up. Feels like I’m having a morning drink with friends (I’ve missed)! xox

  3. You answered a question I’ve been pondering, about keeping a “fur” throw out all year. We do still use throws in summer so it makes sense. And using a storage basket will definitely help the room not feel too heavy for summer. Thanks for the ideas.

    1. Sarah Gibson says:

So glad to hear that, Dawn! I keep mine in the basket year round, and even during the summer- we’ll grab for them in our basement (since it’s chilly). But- for styling purposes, I keep lighter versions (cotton, linen, etc) on the sofa in the summer months.
