Realistic Faux & Dried Branches to Style This Autumn
Happy Friday! We’re halfway through October, so as we head into November- the season of hosting and tablescapes, I thought it would be fun to share my favorite realistic faux (and dried) branches to style this autumn. Of course, you can also venture into your backyard and snip some live branches, but if you’re trying to avoid the mess, don’t have great options at home, or would like branches you can use year-after-year (everlasting), these offer the perfect classic, colorful, and textural touch. Click through for my top picks and styling tips…

If you missed this post, definitely click over and check out how to easily style branches for fall! I shared my favorite mesh inserts, floral frogs, and quick tips for simple and timeless autumnal arrangements. Once you’ve got the hang of it, this post will offer the best current selections. In the above image, I used these dried & preserved oak leaves in my kitchen. They take quite a bit of fluffing, but are an easy, affordable option.

I love the hues the fall season brings! I think I may need to invest in a few more variations, to save for next year- many are on sale right now. I’m also partial to magnolia branches because they can be used year round… you’ll often find them throughout my house. Which are your favorites?

Styling Oversized Branches
When styling oversized branches, my biggest tip is to avoid overstuffing your vessel… less is more. The negative space larger or taller branches create is visually appealing. It’s an easy and affordable way to create a sculptural look with the height and width you’re looking to achieve. Embrace the negative space!

If your branches aren’t very tall, but you’d like to add height to your arrangement… grab a taller vessel, stuff the bottom with newspaper or recycled packaging, then place a mesh frog just inside the top of the vase for stability. It’s an easy hack I use often.
Styling Bud Vases
Don’t forget to reach for your empty bud vases! You can use wire cutters to snip faux branches, paring them down to fit into smaller vessels. These are perfect for styling on a bedside table, demilune, console, or tucked out of the way on a countertop or cluttered coffee table. They’re great for adding a smaller pop of color and texture to any vignette.
FAQ
They’re not messy once they’re arranged and do not drop leaves… but during the fluffing process, they have a tendency to break and crumble. It’s a delicate process! I worked mine over the sink for easy clean up. They do have a bit of a preserved odor, but once they air out- it’s less noticeable.
Of course! Get creative with them and do what feels best to you. I prefer the consistency of a single look per container, but I have many branch varieties scattered throughout our home at the moment: magnolia branches, oak branches, grape vine branches, and maple.

Using Live Branches
I also wanted to mention the use of live branches… if you have any nice colorful options in your backyard, you can definitely venture outside to snip some (free) branches. I give them a good shake or use the leaf blower to dust them off before bringing them indoors. Smash the bottom of the branch, then add a bit of water to your vessel to keep them looking their best for longer. They’ll begin to drop leaves and may not last very long, but it’s a great alternative if you’re hosting or need a last minute arrangement.
