Happy Friday and Labor Day weekend, friends! It has been exactly one year since I drafted my last Noteworthy post (this is my 67th in the series), but I’m excited to be back with updates, inspiring links, and a good catch up session. Grab your coffee- or beverage of choice, and buckle up for a long, interesting, and hopefully entertaining heartfelt reunion… albeit, hopefully a bit more organized than my previous Noteworthy posts. You know what to do- click through!

Labor Day Weekend

What does everyone have planned for Labor Day? We’ll be working on projects this long weekend, and are staying close to home. While I typically enjoy pulling together the best Labor Day sales, I didn’t have the bandwidth this year and ran out of time. We are having our annual sale in the Tuesday Made shop… click here to browse our sale and snag up to 80% off!

Travel

While we currently don’t have any big trips planned, I am looking forward to a quick work trip to NYC for the Better Homes & Garden Stylemakers event. I’m honored to have been invited this year! Immediately from New York, I’ll be jetting across the country for a bestie’s bachelorette party in LA. It’s going to be a busy, but fun week. We also just arrived home from a boating & camping vacation at Lake Powell… if you were wondering where the breathtaking imagery throughout this post was taken. More on that below!

Savoring Summer, Lake Powell, & Our Boat

We spent a week on the water with 18 friends, and it was a magical time with incredible people. I highly recommend renting a house boat with your friends or family. I also wanted to share the story behind our boat- which I’ve been sharing snippets of all summer long. It’s a cool story (though a little long winded)

I grew up boating on this exact boat in Kentucky on the Ohio River- it belonged to my stepdad. Emmett & I have so many wonderful memories on this boat- it was a hallmark of our teenage years. Fast forward a decade… my parents ended up selling the boat, and a couple years later when it came back on the market, Emmett & I jumped at the opportunity to purchase it. My parents hauled it from Kentucky to Utah a couple summers ago, but it didn’t want to run… for fellow gearheads- the carburetor was really struggling at altitude. Reluctantly, we had them tow it back to Kentucky- since it wouldn’t run here. We debated selling it, but that felt sad after saving up and having just gotten it back.

My stepdad happens to be a talented mechanic, so he tracked down a salvaged fuel injected engine for us, rebuilt it, then towed the boat back out over Memorial Day (this summer). Our nostalgic, memory-filled boat has been running like a dream each weekend since. Emmett & I have been working weekends for years, and investing in this boat has really encouraged us to spend at least one day on the water each weekend… a ritual we now look forward to.

Just like our camper reveal, we’ve got big plans for a boat makeover. After all… it’s a 1990 that looks exactly like it did when we were teens. In fact, I designed and installed the boat graphic when I was 15 years old. We’re excited to change the color palette, redesign the graphics, and address the interior upholstery- updating the aesthetic to feel more like us. It will be one of the more sentimental projects we tackle, and I’m excited to share it with you as it unfolds. Taking it to Lake Powell was definitely the first of many memories having it out West.

Home Project Updates

I also wanted to update you on our home projects. The entryway is still awaiting completion, as there are a handful of pesky paint tasks & touchups left on my to-do list. I’m hoping to wrap it up this fall, but as of now- it’s not our top priority. At the top of our list is our outdoor kitchen build, as we’re working against some deadlines. I’ve also got a fun kitchen island project to share with you in the week ahead! Of course, the home gym is still on our renovation list as well. I’m going to need that a couple months post surgery to get back into shape.

Room for Tuesday Updates

You may notice the blog took on a new look this month. After some technical difficulties, I decided to spend time updating the homepage, expanding the categories blog posts are filtered into, and really organize the main menu. Feel free to poke around and check it out! I hope the site is easier to navigate and you enjoy the elevated aesthetic- I think it looks much better. While the majority of blog readers read on mobile devices, I still think the best user experience is via computer. Don’t be afraid to pull out your laptop, scroll your desktop, or bring out your tablet every once in a while. Amuse me and try it sometime. As always, thank you for including me in your weekly routine, if you’re a regular around here!

Personal Updates & Good Reads

Personal updates are plentiful (since it’s been a year). Many of you know I’ve struggled with my health these past few years, and while my autoimmune conditions are feeling more manageable, I’m having a hysterectomy in less than a month. After multiple uterine surgeries, it’s time. Prior to my surgery, Emmett & I have had many conversations surrounding our future. I’m currently in the process of our one and only IVF cycle pre-surgery, which has me feeling ick this week. It’s certainly been a year of surprises and challenging scenarios, but despite that- home and creating has continued to be a happy source of comfort for me.

If you’ve noticed I’ve been more absent than usual, that’s what has been occurring behind-the-scenes. While feeling not entirely myself, I have enjoyed losing myself in some good books. Be sure to add these to your reading list- my five most recent reads:

I’ve honestly pulled back on sharing the intimate details of life on Instagram these past few years in an effort to protect my mental health. While social media can indeed be positive, uplifting, and helpful- it can also be a very judgmental, harsh space that I’m not always willing to subject myself to. However, I do miss the sense of community, friendship, and support, so I’d like to slowly ease back into sharing the more vulnerable or spontaneous topics. I think it’s important. It’s also how I’ve made so many friends and heartfelt connections over the years. That said, the blog and email still feel like my safe spaces… so I’m kicking newsletters back up again (scroll on to sign up & keep in touch).

I Recently Purchased…

My recent purchases? Here are my most recent buys, aside from some of the books I mentioned above…

723 Laundry Detergent // I recently switched from their signature detergent to this fragrance and I don’t think I’ll ever go back. Even Emmett commented on how much he likes it!

Secondhand Finds from The Real Real // I’ve been searching for some work outfits for my upcoming NYC trip and my first stop is always The Real Real. You can find some amazing designer pieces for a fraction of the price. I scored some classic black ballet flats, a blazer, and a skirt for less than $200. I’ll show you once they arrive.

Cotton Cableknit Sweater// This sweater is 100% cotton and such a great budget find (under $35)! I’ve already been wearing it often in my rotation, and it’s great for tying around your shoulders for the last bit of summer.

Cozy Pajama Set // I’ve been prepping for my upcoming surgery, and one suggestion someone sent was to treat myself to a comfy lounge set. I’ve been wanting to try Lake pajamas for years, and finally bought myself a set. These are like butter- so soft, breathable, and stretchy… they’ll be perfect for my recovery.

Quilted Jacket // I popped into local boutique, Katie Waltman, and couldn’t resist this lightweight quilted jacket for fall. It also comes in brown!

Newsletter Signup

Unfortunately, Google doesn’t like when I post these random, admittedly scattered-brained, long winded Noteworthy posts that are seemingly irrelevant in the scheme of my area of expertise or niche- interiors and home. I’m not sure when I’ll get around to posting another one of these, but I am committed to bringing back weekly newsletters with the same format… personal conversations & catch up sessions, inspiring links, recent purchases, project updates, etc. If you’re not already- hop on my email list here! The first one is going out next week, and from there they’ll arrive in your inbox every Tuesday. It’s the easiest (and most casual) way to keep in touch with me! You can always hit the reply button, too… responses come straight to my inbox.

  1. Good morning! Cue my little happy dance! SEO can suck it, I adore a Noteworthy catch up! 😍 Wow. Your stunning images crank up my AZ dreaming to new heights. We never ventured there in all our years of desert living. I’m guessing you visited the UT area? The closeup shot of your boat against the red cliffs? Spectacular. Speaking of your heritage craft, she’s adorable! (Not to be dismissively diminutive, I’m sure she’s v powerful.) I kinda dig the 90s maroon graphics, ha. Of course, they’re your design! I know zero about boats, so I can’t wait to learn more when you share your updates. Sounds like you’ve got a whirlwind week approaching. I’ve seen others on IG mentioning the Stylemakers event. Now, I’m invested! I hope you enjoy connecting and get a serious inspiration boost! I’ll just have to settle for some favorite portfolio perusals. Heidi Caillier and Stephanie Sabbe are tops! Have you ever watched Stephanie’s IG stories? She’s a HOOT. Open, funny, and down to earth. Refreshing on the social media landscape. Sad face. I share your online lament (people are UNhinged!😳), but I also miss the community and friendship. I’m thrilled to hear you’ll resume the newsletter! Get ready to be sick of me. I’m eager for any and all sharing…projects, personal, purchases. Cheers to a wonderful long weekend savoring summer’s swan song! Sending the warmest of hugs, friend.💜
PS Thanks for all the fun links; I’ve got 7 tabs open.🤣

Hi Peggi!! SEO can such it, indeed. Ha! No truer words have been spoken. We bopped between the UT area and AZ line, which are oddly in different time zones- so we never had the correct time. Ha! You’ve gotta get to Lake Powell someday- it’s your kind of magical desert place. We’re excited about our “vintage” (lol) boat. It’s a special fixer for us. I’m thrilled to have gotten my first invitation to the stylemakers event. In over a decade of blogging, I’ve never been invited- so I was shocked and excited to receive that mail. I’m rooming with my friends Kyla and Ursula. Stephanie is one of my favorite follows- she says all the things I want to say and is such a hoot, ha! Refreshing, for sure. I could never be sick of you! Hope you’re having a fabulous weekend savoring what’s left of summer. We’re (ok, Emmett) installing patio tile and I couldn’t be happier. xox

  2. Hi
Good morning, and it always is when I get to see your work and posts on the days you post. I hope your days are filled with relaxation and joy in this anxious time and one day you reflect back on it and realize that you were so much loved and prayed for not only by your family but also the people whose lives you have touched via this blog.Blessings and love

    1. Sarah Gibson says:

Hi Saba! Thank you so much for reading, for taking the time to comment, and for your sweet words of encouragement. I really appreciate it! Hope you’re having a beautiful weekend :)

  3. Good morning and happy Friday Sarah! Our long weekend will be spent much like yours- tackling items on the project punch list. We’re kicking it off with an appointment this morning for window coverings in the front room.*Eeeeek* With back-to-school in full swing, unfortunately so are the germs. Myself and AJ haven’t been feeling great the past few days, so I did a deep dive online while resting-needless to say, I know exactly what I want now, and am excited for my samples to arrive. The backstory of your boat is the coolest ever; perhaps the coolest part is that you designed those graphics at such a young age. I’m looking forward to seeing the direction you decide to take with this one! You know I look forward to my coffee & blog mornings- but it does strike me that I’ve never pulled out my laptop to read a blog post… in all these years, not once. Next week, I plan on pulling it out and having a different experience. W Design Collective’s lighting is dreamy. All the heart eyes for the Richmond and Manchester pendants, the Luca wall sconce, and the Arlington sconce. I enjoy browsing your linked articles so much- fireplace #9 slayed me dead. The entire room is warm, inviting, and serving vibes I didn’t know I needed. The rug at the top of your Amazon page is a need… I have to know where I can find that! I saved a few of your rug finds, but I need to browse your updated finds this weekend. In regards to the personal updates, you know I’m constantly rooting for you, your health, and overall happiness. I want to use this opportunity to say, that doesn’t go away just because you’re not sharing. Personal details and social media feel scary to me on any level. I can’t imagine how it must feel to be in larger social media shoes, and the level of scrutiny that can come with that. I understand completely the trepidation; earlier this year I deleted every post on my feed that had photos of AJ & Brooke, due to AI. All that to say, my support will be steadfast, no matter how much or little you choose to share. Everything you’re dealing with health-wise would be overwhelming in isolation- let alone all together. I’m excited for fall posts being right around the corner. The cooler weather is setting in, and inspiration is on the horizon. I’m hoping we’ll have a cooler than normal fall, mostly because I just want to be able to wear a cozy knit sweater, ha! As the season inches nearer, my hope for us all is that it will bring with it the peace that is home, as well as rejuvenated health, spirits and the joy that comes from the close knit relationships we’ve built here. We’re all behind you Sarah- and great things are on the horizon! Cheers to Labor Day weekend friends! Xoxo, and all my love.

    1. Sarah Gibson says:

Hi Lauren! Hope your long weekend is going wonderfully, and the window covering appointment went well! I also hope you and AJ are feeling back to your norm. I love our boat and the memories we have on it… definitely a special project to us, so thanks for sharing in my excitement. Ha! The thing I like about reading on the laptop is so fewer ads. The ad company I work with requires you have so many on mobile to stay in their program (which is how the blog is funded), and they’re honestly annoying. The desktop version hardly has any. It’s nice if you have the time to open your laptop! As always, thanks for being an awesome friend in my corner- appreciate you and your kind words of encouragement. Also- your kids are lucky to have such a smart and caring mom. I would have done the same with social! I’m equally as ready for sweater weather… bring it on. I’m itching to plan a big trip somewhere cool and drizzly, but with my surgeries and IVF, we can’t go far. Happy Labor Day weekend!! Big hugs. xo

    2. Sarah, I’ve read your blog for years and dug through years of older posts, too. I have always been so impressed by your design skills and knowledge and the eye you have for aesthetics. Through each of your houses I’ve found ideas that I’ve implemented in my old house and now have used to plan and build my new house in my dream neighborhood, in my new hometown on the East Coast. Your work has been a touch point more than that of any other designer. Thank you for this part of your work that you share with all of us. Wishing you well through this part of your journey.

      1. Sarah Gibson says:

Thank you so much! You made my day with this message, Elaine! Thanks for reading all these years. I hope you’re settling into your new home on the East Coast!

  4. Side note: I clicked through to your entryway project post, forgot where I was, and left a comment there. Ignore it, please. :)

What I wrote: What I love about your home is that it is spare and lux. You don’t overcrowd with art and knickknacks; there is just the right, well curated amount. I am taking notes. As a secondhand shopping lover, this is a big hurdle for me!

And now that I am back on the right post and have finished reading it, wishing you the very best for your IVF cycle.

    1. Sarah Gibson says:

Thanks, Dawn! No trouble at all- the comments all come to the same spot for me :) Really appreciate your kind words and encouragement! Hope you’re having a wonderful long weekend.

  5. Great post Sarah! And what a beautiful boat! An incredibly neat set of circumstances in how you managed to track it down and have the opportunity to purchase it. Obviously this boat meant a lot to you both, probably more than you realized. And how fantastic your Stepdad was able to fix it for use in Utah, and bring it back to you too 🥳 sending him the highest high five ever!
The boat looks like it’s in great shape but I know you and Emmett will work your design and creative magic and bring it to another level. It’s what you two do best! Great pics BTW 👍
I completely agree this summer has flown by, Andrew and I arrived at our cottage this past Wednesday so we are spending the long weekend and the last of summer here. This humble little place (aka the money pit) has brought us to tears at times but also incredible joy so we are utilizing it and the lake to its fullest before it’s time to close it for the season. There is something magical here we just can’t let go of, nostalgia I guess, possibly a similar situation to your boat experience. Not to mention creating new memories and building on to the old ones 🥰
On another note I’m sorry to hear you have yet another surgery to endure. You’ve had to deal with so many health issues, I’m so sad you’ve got to get through another challenging procedure. Sending the biggest hugs one can offer Sarah! Sometimes life can really deal some seriously large lemons but the pics of your boat and all the enjoyment you’ve had this summer hopefully helped.
I have some really great news to share. My family in Nova Scotia you so generously donated to last year when they lost their home and pets to wildfire are returning home this weekend as the rebuild is complete. Yay! They also recently adopted a sweet darling pup named Winnie that needed a wonderful family, so it’s a win win. That darling pup is helping them cope and heal from the loss and move forward. It’s been such a hard year but they are finally getting back home and to the community they love. Many wonderfully supportive people ( like you ) contributed to the fund that helped them get back on their feet after such a sad disaster and now they get to restart and build new memories. So thank you for being a contributor ❤️🫶💝
Anyway great catch up sesh and I look forward to the weekly newsletters! I’ll be sure to sign up so I don’t miss out. Enjoy your weekend to the fullest Sarah and Happy pizza Friday everyone!

    1. Sarah Gibson says:

So glad you liked this one, Colleen! And thanks for supporting the shop this weekend- I saw your name in our order queue… appreciate you so much! I also can’t believe how quickly this summer passed. We tried to cram a lot in, but there is never enough to time to do all the fun things. I hope you and Andrew are enjoying this week at the cottage. I have a vision of what it looks like in my mind, ha! I love how special it is to the two of you. I’m feeling optimistic about my health, despite the hurdles. It’s been an emotional roller coaster, but we’re feeling excited about our path forward… and hopefully I’ll start to feel much better. Your happy news made my day!! Thank you for sharing. Absolutely loved reading that your family was able to return home, and with Winnie in tow! What a lucky pup to heal heartbreak. Wishing them nothing but the best to come! xox

  6. I rarely comment, but I read every post and love reading about your personal updates. You are hands down my favorite blogger and I love the thoughtful and informative content you put out. Just wanted to share encouragement from someone who isn’t usually visible. ❤️

    1. Sarah Gibson says:

Thank you so much for reading and for taking the time to comment, Abby! You made my day :) Hope you’re having a lovely long weekend!

  7. Wishing you the best for the upcoming surgery, sending a big hug from Australia. Will keep you in my prayers. Lake Powell looks amazing, I would love to see it IRL..

    1. Sarah Gibson says:

Thank you so much, Rita! I really appreciate that. I hope you get a chance to see Lake Powell someday- it’s one of my very favorite places.

  8. Good morning! Longtime reader, first time commenter. :) Just wanted to say I’m praying for your IVF cycle.

    1. Sarah Gibson says:

Thank you so much, Caroline! Really appreciate that!

  9. Wow, I can’t believe it’s been so long since a Noteworthy post! I was wondering where your stunning photos were taken – Lake Powell looks incredible. So different from the natural beauty in New England. I totally agree with you that blogs are made to be read on the big screen. I always try to save my browsing for when I have access to my iPad or laptop.

Best of luck with recovery from your surgery. Hope you find lots of good books and tv to recover with – I think you may have read Pachinko by Min Jin Lee, but if not, I highly recommend reading that and then watching the incredible adaptation on Apple TV!

    1. Sarah Gibson says:

Right? A year! That’s wild. Lake Powell is a magical place… one of my very favorites. Thank you for reading on your iPad or laptop! I can’t tell you how happy that makes me. It’s so much better. I appreciate your kind words, Brittany! I’m adding those to my list- I haven’t read or watched either, so those are incredible recommendations. I appreciate it. Hope you’re having a fabulous weekend!
