15 Best Home Decor Finds from At Home for 2024

It’s time for a new in-person shopping trip post, and this time we’re checking out At Home. I’ll admit, I’m not a huge fan of this store. Everything from their slogan, “The Home Decor Superstore” plastered across the front, to the overwhelming amount of stuff they carry feels a little overwhelming. It’s a store I seldomly duck into. However, someone sent me a message requesting an At Home shopping trip, and I thought it was only fair to oblige. I know I lot of people love it, I did find a handful of things, and I even came home with a couple items. It’s always a fun challenge to poke around and see what feels fresh. Click through for my 15 best (designer approved) home decor finds from At Home. Let’s go shopping, shall we?

My hope is these in-person style shopping posts will help you navigate accessible stores nearby and provide a fun peek into what I’d actually buy, as a designer. While I was quick to judge At Home, I did uncover some surprising things! Let’s go inside…

1. Pedestal Planters

I found almost every item I snapped photos of in store, online… excluding these planters- though there are plenty of similar options. If you like these specific planters, definitely check your local store. I thought these were a nice neutral, had a good looking shape, and would be ideal for elevating plants year round. I do have mums on my mind for fall at the moment!

4. Oversized Clay Planter

Back in the outdoor section, I stumbled upon these giant planters! This thing measures 21″ x 21″ and cost far less than the options at my local garden center… and they’re crack resistant, if you’re looking for something more durable than terracotta.

5. Basketweave Canisters

These white kitchen canisters have a classic basketweave texture, sealing lid, are food safe, and would be pretty styled on kitchen shelves to contain pantry staples or coffee beans. I like that they have two sizes… it’s always nice to style with multiples.

Tips for Shopping for Timeless Home Decor at At Home

I know At Home gets a bad rep for disposable home decor, but I’ll say this (as a designer)… if you dig and are conscious of materials, you can find some beautiful, nicely crafted essentials that will withstand the test of time. Anytime I make a home purchase, I want it to last and be something I’ll love for years to come. I will say this- I’d avoid their furniture, faux plants, and artwork section altogether. Here are 5 of my best tips for grabbing things that won’t end up being donated later on…

  1. Stick to the Essentials – items like I’ve shown throughout this post… kitchen goods and functional, simple everyday items.
  2. Choose Items Made of Natural Materials – look for solid wood, stoneware, 100% cotton, 100% linen, marble, etc.
  3. Double Check the Quality & Craftsmanship – everything has to pass my quality & craftsmanship inspection. Is it well made? Are there rough edges? Does it have a nice weight? Does it look cheap?
  4. Avoid Trendy Items – There are lots of trendy home items that will be out of style later this year… avoid those.
  5. Purchase with Longevity in Mind – choose items you know you’ll still like in 3-4 years. Keep the words “timeless” and “classic” in mind when making purchases.

FAQ

Can we see your fall items you purchased from At Home?

Aside from the dishes, I snagged a couple lanterns for the front porch, as well as a few faux pumpkins… that will most likely require me to faux paint them in a more convincing way. Once the weather changes and it’s time to redecorate the front porch for fall, I’ll be sure to share and link everything!

Any tips for making At Home feel less overwhelming? It’s kind of an exhausting store.

I feel this! It’s overwhelming and exhausting for me too, and I’m a professional with a trained eye. If it’s not an easy store for an interior designer to navigate, you’re not alone in feeling the chaos that accompanies this one. I’d recommend going in with a goal. If you need planters- stick to the garden section only. If you’re on the hunt for kitchen items, get in, get what you need, and get out. I think many people fall prey to mindlessly wandering around (since the store is so massive) and that’s how you end up bringing home junk.

I hope you liked this one! Which store should I search next? We’re actually on a boating trip this weekend as I’m starting some medical procedures next week, so a reset felt needed. It may take me a little longer to respond to comments. I’ve got a Noteworthy(!) post lined up for you next week to bring you up to speed, but depending on how things go- I may need to adjust the blog schedule. Check back for that, and I’ll keep you posted!

  1. Good morning! This is a store I’ve never heard of, and I’m pretty sure we don’t have in my immediate area. That being said, I’m getting the idea that it’s similar to TJMaxx… but on steroids. Ha! What a challenge to find the diamonds in the rough- your finds are proof positive that even at a store like this, classic finds can be uncovered. The pedestal planters immediately reminded me of your outdoor water bowl for the dogs- similar look and shape. I’m smitten over the pillow in both color ways- that contrast whip stitch is the cutest, and the texture looks nice. The lighter option would be a great neutral for my dark gray sofa. I’m digging the shape of the outdoor planter! It’s the same size as my terracotta ones (far more expensive), but crack resistant?! The lighter color would also be fun for mixing a collection. I’d die for one store in my area that has a killer marble section- World Market comes close, but sadly my local store sees a ton of broken pieces. I like the large scale boards and the lazy Susan. The wood pedestal is serving modern vibes and I love it! That piece would be a fun addition to a countertop, kitchen island or to elevate tapers on a dining table. Your ability to find so many items at a disposable decor store is dynamite! I can’t say that I’m skilled at shopping for timeless and classic- but I always remember your tips when I’m browsing stores like this. I’ve gotta say, it has helped save me from decor I’ll regret. A boating adventure sounds just like the R&R you need before your surgery. I’ll be thinking of you, praying over you, and sending all the restful recovery and healing vibes. Have a lovely weekend Sarah! Xoxo

Hello, hello! You’ve never heard of At Home?! I’m glad I could share something new-to-you. It’s a ginormous outlet kind of vibe filled to the brim with random home things in every category. It’s absolutely massive. Definitely like TJ Maxx, but not as good? You won’t find designer brands there. The prices can be hit or miss- like the planters you pointed out. It’s interesting! Thank you for all the positive thoughts, prayers, and healing vibes- appreciate you so much!! xo

  2. Good morning! How sweet of you to fulfill a personal shopping request. Seeing what your discerning eye unearths is so informative! According to their website, my closest At Home store is 236 miles away, so I’m in no danger of in-person overwhelm. HA. As fall approaches, I gravitate to all of the wooden accessories. Love the various serving boards and bowls! And that pedestal reminds me that I spied one (with a glass cloche!) at the thrift store yesterday and forgot to circle back.🤦🏻 Those beaded edge platters were a no-brainer! I bet they’ll mingle happily with your existing pieces. Of course, what I’m most interested in are the lampshades.🤣 I need two for a little creative tinkering, so I don’t want to spend much. I always enjoy a vicarious shopping trip, and a new source for inexpensive lampshades is welcome! 😉 Your weekend plans sound delightful! I wish you the dreamiest days of repose. The nastiest pestilence has visited us this week, so I’ll be disinfecting surfaces, burning sage, and lounging around in a hazmat suit practicing resistance.😭 Cheers to healthy days ahead for us all!💜
I’ll keep my eyes peeled for your Noteworthy post!

Always happy to do so! No danger of in-person overwhelm for you, lol. I’m with you on gravitating toward warm materials for fall though. Give me all the wood, wool, brass, etc. Believe me when I said, there are three entire aisles of JUST LAMPSHADES. It’s wild. Hope you’re back to your regular happy, healthy self by now :) Clearly, I’m very behind over here!

  3. Great finds! I feel the same about At Home, and the fact that it’s a smidge of a drive for me doesn’t help. Lists like these are helpful though, to have more of a target in mind amid acres of merchandise. The wood pedestal and the lanterns especially caught my eye. I’m thinking of flanking the fireplace with lanterns, and because they would be at dog level faux candles for the win!

    1. Sarah Gibson says:

Thank you, Dawn! I’m so glad the list feels helpful. They definitely have acres of merchandise… and a lot of it feels low end. I love your idea of flanking the fireplace with lanterns. Faux candles and dogs are definitely a good combo, ha!

  4. How timely ! I ventured into At Home earlier this week before reading your post. I took note of natural materials per your past advice and admired the marble lazy susan you seem to have found as well! I walked fast and kept my trip short, but still left the store overwhelmed. Thank you for your pointers on how to navigate all that merchandise. Should I dare take on At Home again I can focus on the stronger sections and better quality goods.

    1. Sarah Gibson says:

I love hearing that! It’s definitely an overwhelming store, but I’m glad I was able to find some nice things.
