Designer Picks: The Best Bed Frames from Wayfair
When it comes to bedroom design, the bed frame is the main event- the piece that anchors and sets the tone for the entire room. A great bed frame not only supports your mattress, but also serves as the focal point in your bedroom. Whether you’re designing a cozy guest room or are giving your own bedroom a refresh, I wanted to share some of my top picks from Wayfair. I did some digging, and they have a fantastic selection of frames that combine form, function, and style for any budget. As an interior designer, I gravitate toward timeless shapes, high-quality materials, and versatile finishes. The bed is the one piece of furniture I’m willing to seriously invest in… think about how much time you spend in it. Our bed is probably the most expensive piece of furniture in our home, for that reason. Click through for my curated picks and shopping tips- all are perfect for layering alongside luxe bedding and your favorite vintage nightstands!

Classic Upholstered Bed Frames
Upholstered bed frames instantly add softness and sophistication to a bedroom. Look for tailored headboards, piped edges, subtle curves, nailhead details, and high-quality fabrics, like linen or velvet. My favorite Wayfair picks in this category feature:
- Neutral tones that work with any bedding palette
- Tufted, channeled, or piped detailing for added texture
- Upholstered rails- and a headboard that fully connects to the rails (gaps can look cheap)
- Sturdy wood slat support for durability

1. Notched Headboard Upholstered Bed
I love this headboard shape… it feels classic with the notched corners, piped seam, and channel detailing.
1. Upholstered Leather Bed
This is the closest option to my own custom leather bed. I appreciate good box tufting- and you can’t go wrong with the timeless and durable look of a leather bed. Mine is over a decade old!
1. Bernhardt Bed with Nailhead Trim
This upholstered bed is handmade in North Carolina and has a beautiful nailhead detail along the top of the headboard. Bernhardt is one of my favorite, trusted designer brands… if you’re looking for a good investment piece.
Timeless Wood Bed Frames
Wood bed frames are the definition of timeless… they add warmth, natural texture, and an organic feel to your bedroom. I recommend searching for the following:
- Solid wood construction for longevity
- Black stained wood, washed oak, or warm walnut finishes to match your aesthetic
- Clean lines that blend traditional and modern aesthetics
- Finial, hand turned, barley twist, or bobbin details
- A solid headboard

1. Four Poster Wood Bed
Is there anything more timeless than a wood four poster bed? This walnut option is stunning and would make the most beautiful focal point.
1. Antique White Wood Bed
When sourcing wood bed frames, I’m always looking for bobbin, barley twist, or hand turned details. This bed has an antique look- without the price. It’s a classic pick!
1. Solid Wood Noir Four Poster Bed
This black stained, solid wood bed has been on my short list for a while now. It’s dramatic, high contrast, and will never go out of style. I adore the finial details at the top of the posts.
Metal or Iron Bed Frames
Metal bed frames are an easy way to bring in a touch of vintage character or industrial style. Look for these elements:
- Bronze, black, or brass finishes for a metal that won’t go out of style
- Slim profiles that make small rooms feel more open
- Classic spindle or canopy styles that feel timeless, yet current
- Stick to vintage reproduction styles, so your bed will withstand the test of time

1. Black Iron Bed
Industrial iron beds will never age. This simplistic option with clean lines is a great choice for modern, rustic, and traditional aesthetics. It’s versatile!
1. White Metal Spindle Bed
This budget friendly bed almost has the look of wood- with the durability of metal. White is a classic choice and would be beautiful paired with any aesthetic.

1. Upholstered Metal Canopy Bed
I purchased this bed five years ago and still love it! It’s the focal point in our maroon guest bedroom. It’s both beautiful and budget friendly… especially for a canopy bed.
Best Beds for Small Spaces
If you’re furnishing a small bedroom, you can still have a beautiful bed frame without sacrificing style. I love our twin size bed in the basement bedroom– it’s one of my favorites! Consider the following:
- Low-profile designs to make ceilings feel taller
- Storage drawers built into the frame
- A daybed with storage or a trundle, for extra space
- Twin, single, or full size bed frames

1. Striped Upholstered Single Bed
This charming upholstered bed integrates a classic wood frame. It feels light (visually speaking), making it the perfect choice for a small space. The linear stripes also help draw your eye upward, for added height.
1. Daybed with Lower Storage Drawers
I love a timeless daybed! These can be tucked into corners and rooms that aren’t traditionally used as bedrooms (like my home office). If you’re trying to squeeze an extra sleeping space out of your house- try a daybed. Bonus points if it has storage.

1. Wood Twin Size Bed
This wood bed definitely has an antique feel, and looks far more expensive than it actually is! Twin or full size beds are perfect for small bedrooms.

FAQ
Not necessarily… look for performance fabrics or linen blends that resist staining. A quick vacuum and spot cleaning will keep them fresh. Check out this post I shared on how to deep clean upholstery.
Many modern bed frames have slat support systems that eliminate the need for a box spring. Just confirm the mattress compatibility before purchasing. Honestly, I prefer having a box spring for height.
Choose based on your room size and needs- queen is the most versatile, while king offers more comfort, if you have the space.
Solid wood frames tend to have the longest lifespan, especially when well-constructed with dovetail joints. Metal frames are also durable and can last decades with minimal maintenance.
I had it custom made over a decade ago. You can read all about the process and story behind it here… my leather bed (pictured below). If you’re looking for the closest option, this bed is your best bet!
