Christmas Tour: My Holiday Home Office

I hope everyone is having a lovely holiday season thus far! Over the weekend, I hosted a favorite things party with some girlfriends, which turned out to be so much fun. As promised, I’m back to the blog today with one last stop on my interior holiday tour… my home office. This small room is where I spend the majority of my time throughout the work week. Designing, editing, writing, and scrolling- most days you can find me behind my computer. While my office is indeed for knocking out the to-do list and working, it has also become my little sanctuary- a place to light my favorite candles, tuck away meaningful objects, dream, read good books curled up on my daybed, and make grand plans. It’s a calming room that feels like me, and one I’m thankful for. This season, I kept it simple. Click through to see my home office decorated in an understated, classic way for the holidays!

Last year, I stuck to a theme throughout the majority of our home. If you missed my holiday office tour from last year, check it out here: Equestrian Inspired Christmas Tour : Home Office. If you’re behind on this year’s holiday home tour, I’ll link each space for you below!

I hope you’ve enjoyed the holiday room tours this year… I certainly had a fun time decorating and photographing these for you! After this one, it’s back to regular programming around here… unless it dumps snow, then I’d love to shoot an updated exterior holiday tour. We’ll see if the weather cooperates. In the meantime, here’s how my home office currently looks…

My Office Decorated for the Holidays

This corner vignette is always the most fun to decorate. I styled my black console table with design magazines, books, an oversized lamp, garland, and a seasonal candle from my shop, sticking with brown and orange hues.

Above the table, I added a wreath and ribbon to my antlers- can you believe those are faux?! Although, my thoughts may surprise you in this design discussion on taxidermy, if you’re new here.

On the adjacent wall, I repeated the same garland installation as last year… a simple cedar swag above my vintage art. At this point, I ran out of ribbon, but if I would have had more, I most likely would have added a bow here. It’s hard to believe I was designing my office built-ins four years ago, and it all started with this sketch.

My custom window treatments with that pretty Greek key edge detail are among my favorite things about this room. I also love how they perfectly frame my candle wall sconce, in which I added a sprig or two of greenery along with ribbon for the season.

I think it’s clever to sprinkle tiny holiday details around a room- even if they don’t scream Christmas. You don’t even need a tree… sometimes a simple sprig or wrapped gifts are more interesting tucked into a simple vignette.

My antique marble horse still graces the credenza Emmett built for me, which is the most handy for closed storage. If you guessed I have it completely filled up and organized, you’d be right. Ha!

FAQ

Where are your cords, printer, and other office necessities?

They’re expertly hidden! My printer is in the cabinet, I have a floor outlet under the rug, and my cords are zipped behind the desk leg. Here are 5 things every home office needs, in my opinion.

Do you have any interior design book recommendations for gifting?

Since receiving my copy in October, I’ve really enjoyed paging through Decorate Like a Decorator by Dara Caponigro, the brains behind Frederic magazine (and Schumacher fabric). I highly recommend this one for professionals and hobbyists, alike. It’s filled with inspiration! You may also consider gifting a magazine subscription? 1. Good morning Sarah! I love the way the office looks this year. Simple, understated, but classic. The oversized lamp on your black console table is such a stunning moment- the contrast is everything! But of course, my favorite holiday moment in here is the taxidermy- so cute!! I love that your office has become your retreat- you certainly designed a beautiful space for work and creative forays. We’ve finished up decorating, and today I’m tackling the last of the gift wrapping. I’m having an enjoyable season this year and ready to do some holiday baking with the kids. I hope you have an enjoyable week ahead!

Thanks, Lauren! This room makes me so happy- so thankful we were able to tackle it. I always enjoy giving it a few holiday touches. I also love the taxidermy with the bow- perfect cozy holiday vignette. Did you get your gift wrap finished? I’ve yet to even start on that project (or finish shopping, for that matter). I hope you’ve also been able to do some holiday baking… I’ve definitely checked plenty of cookies off the holiday bingo card, ha! xo

  2. Good morning! So appreciative of this lovely holiday home tour; I’ve savored each stop. I’m glad that you make the effort to bring the season into your work space since you spend so much time there. I’m amazed at the difference a little greenery and ribbon (or a lot🤣) can make. Those lush cedar swags are stunners. Currently kicking myself for not adding TuesdayMade garlands to my cart. Very underwhelmed by the examples I spied recently in a local store.😭 Speaking of TuesdayMade, my order arrived SO fast and perfectly packed. The equestrian candle on your credenza was one of my picks. Wowza! The box is extra gorg and the scent is divine! My friend will be thrilled. Your candle selections are 🔥…burning Warmth rn. Thanks to your nonstop inspiration, my winter decorating journey is nearly complete. Thus far, I’ve crafted wreaths from yard prunings, festooned doorways & art with jeweled fruit garlands, and recovered lampshades with a cut up plaid shirt. FTR, the motivation was you, the crazy is all mine.😂 Cheers to whatever makes these dark days brighter! Have a fantastic day, Sarah!💜

Thank you, Peggi! I’m really happy you enjoyed it. It’s always fun to look through the lens at our home in a different way for the holidays. I always enjoy sharing! You know I love a lot of ribbon, ha. I’m also happy to hear you caught a little inspiration and did some winter decorating of your own! Also thrilled to read the candle arrived safely. I LOVE that one. What are your plans for the jar once it has been burned? I’ve got lots of ideas for mine. Your wreaths sound absolutely lovely! And jeweled fruit garland? Say less! Your plaid shirt lampshade also has me intrigued- I bet it’s beautiful. Ralph Lauren vibes? I’m here for crazy inspiration… always! That’s the best kind. Hope you’re having a good week!

  3. Your equestrian inspired office will always be a favorite Sarah! And all the holiday touches just add to all the gorgeous features. Like the ever so pretty daybed that looks as comfortable as it is beautiful 😍 framed by the stunning built ins ✨ Adding greenery to the vintage artwork definitely brings another element of cozy to this comfy spot🌲
You’ve added wreaths, ribbon and garland in all the right places, making it ever so festive. And of course candles will always set the holiday tone with the sweet smell of Christmas. Such a glorious and festive workspace indeed 🌲😍💖 Cheers to another beautiful tour and to a wonderful holiday season ahead 🥂 Have a super fab Monday!
